What is AI search optimisation?

AI search optimisation is the work of making your business the one that AI tools pick when someone asks them a question you should be answering. It goes by a few names, generative engine optimisation (GEO), answer engine optimisation (AEO) and LLM optimisation, and they all describe the same job: being the source an AI trusts, quotes and links to.

It is not a replacement for SEO, it is built on top of it. Google’s AI Overviews are assembled from pages Google already ranks, and ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity lean heavily on live search results, reviews and third party mentions to decide who is credible. Strong SEO gets you into the pool of sources. The work on this page decides whether you get named once you are in it.

Questions about AI search optimisation

Is AI search optimisation different from SEO?

It is an extension of it, not a replacement. AI answers are assembled from sources that already rank and are already trusted, so technical health, content quality, reviews and links still do most of the work. What is different is the target, being named inside an answer rather than sitting at a position, and the way it is measured. We run both in the one campaign.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and be careful of anyone who does. AI answers vary between tools, between users and between one week and the next. What we can do is make your business the obvious, well-evidenced choice for the prompts that matter, then measure how often it is named and keep pushing that number up.

How do you measure whether it is working?

We agree a set of real customer prompts up front, run them across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot on a schedule, and record every mention and citation. You see the share of prompts where you are named, how that compares with competitors and how it moves month to month.

Does AI search send any actual traffic?

Some, and it converts well, because the person arrives already recommended. The bigger effect is earlier than the click: being named in the answer shapes the shortlist. We report referral traffic from AI tools where analytics can attribute it, and treat citations as the leading indicator.

Should I block AI crawlers from my website?

If you want to appear in AI answers, no. Blocking GPTBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended removes you from the sources those tools can read and quote. Publishers protecting paid content sometimes have a reason to block; a service business almost never does. We check what your robots.txt is currently doing, because a lot of sites block these by accident.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

It is not a ranking factor and no major AI tool has committed to using it, so it is not where we start. Clean HTML, correct schema and pages that answer the question are what actually get read. We are happy to add one, we just will not pretend it is the strategy.

How quickly will I see results?

After determining what “results” means for our clients, we create an SEO forecast and clearly communicate it. Having said that, it’s impossible to approximately pinpoint a specific ranking or amount of leads you will generate in “X” amount of time after investing in SEO. However, generally speaking we can begin to see an improvement in Google visibility within the first few weeks for certain keywords. Do you have previous experience generating leads with SEO?

How long do we need to do SEO for?

With Searchology you’re never locked into a minimum term. You can stop with 30 days’ written notice and start again whenever you like. However, we recommend a minimum period of 6 months to see seriously meaningful results from your SEO campaign with us.

Who actually does my business’ SEO work?

Your campaign is led by Jeremy in Adelaide, and he is responsible for every piece of work on it. You will work and communicate with our local Australian team, not an offshore call centre.

Can we meet in person to discuss my business’ SEO?

Do you optimise for AI search as well as Google?

Yes, and it is part of every campaign rather than an upsell. The same work that ranks you in Google, clear service pages, correct schema, real reviews and genuine local authority, is what Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot draw on when they answer a question about your industry. Where a business wants it tracked properly, our AI search optimisation service measures how often you are named across those tools and works to lift it.

Can I turn off my Google Ads after doing SEO?

We do not recommend turning off Google Ads immediately after commencing SEO services with us. However, over time and a seriously successful SEO campaign with Searchology, there will be scope to lower ad budgets and let organic traffic take the wheel.

How much do your SEO services cost?

Every SEO plan starts at $2,000+GST a month, month to month, with no lock-in contract. Where you land above that depends on your trade, your service area and how competitive the searches are, and you get a fixed monthly figure in writing before you commit. Our full SEO pricing is published up front.

What happens to my website and Google Business Profile if I stop?

They stay yours once your invoices are paid. Your domain and Google Business Profile are set up in your name wherever the platform allows, and we hand over access cleanly, with no hostage tactics. If we host your website, you can take a full export to another host, or keep it with us on a monthly hosting plan.
